About

A medium-sized, bright red apple with lively tartness and rich, aromatic flavor. Once one of America's most important commercial varieties, it remains a superb pie and cider apple.

Fun Fact

Found as a seedling on Philip Rick's farm in Woodstock, it was named by Jesse Buel, president of the Albany Horticultural Society, after Jonathan Hasbrouck, who first introduced Buel to the apple. DNA profiling has confirmed its descent from Esopus Spitzenburg.
